Sativa recommendations

I am looking for info and recommendations for sativa flower on the menu, particularly looking for info from anyone who has tried the chocolope from Merlin.

I used to live closer to the west coast and would get good sativas coming from Cali but since moving back to the east coast in my state it seems impossible to find any true sativa buds.

Comments

  • For reference my favorite strains are Strawberry Cough, Jack Herer, Durban Poison, and really just the most clear headed and energetic sativas I can find.

  • Hello @MadDevil11 looks like not a lot of sativa options on the menu from what I can see. I haven’t tried Merlin’s Chocolope but it’s looks good and I’ve had that strain before. The outdoor Blue Dream from Loud has gotten some great reviews. Their UP Trop Cherry looks 🔥. Have you tried Mimosa before? Happy Trees indoor looks like it hits.

    Yeah.

None of what is on the menu is too terribly enticing for me right now.

    Kind of a bummer.

I only want the best sativas I can find, 60/40 sativa hybrids have some qualities that are desirable but then they have qualities that cancel out the positive aspects IMO. Like giving you energy but at the same time clouding my mind and making me feel slow and stupid like my brain is in a straight jacket.

I scrolled back in the forum and there was someone in the know who asked Merlin to stock some real sativas and it sounds like he did. But that was a long time ago I think holiday season 2023. Also seems like they sold out instantly because let’s be honest: there is a huge part of the market that feels exactly like I do about it.

I plan on doing the video review to get a free 8th of the chocolope which sounds like it might do the trick, I saw some pics that a guy posted of strawberry cough that looked phenomenal but that is long gone it seems. If the chocolope is as good as I hope I will get a QP of just that.

I am just really bummed in my market here it feels like all weed sucks. The effects just suck IMO. Some people might like it but I hate it. I would rather not smoke than smoke that.

I have pretty much quit smoking weed because it all seems like it is engineered to make me feel lazy and stupid.

Absolutely nothing like the clear headed and creative, almost mystically wonderful sativas I used to be able to get.

Maybe more will come I will keep my eye on the menu.

  • @MadDevil11 - Sativa lover here from the baby boomer generation. In past years, there have been many great sativa strains from Merlin and from Loud including Full Moon (Thai), Lemon Thai, Chocolope, Maui Pineapple Chunk, and Lamb's Bread. Unfortunately, most growers prefer hybrids only due to shorter flowering periods and greater yields. The days of great imported Sativas are over unless you travel to Jamaica, Mexico, or Columbia. A recent road trip vacation to California indicated that the desirable Sativas are still available. I purchased two different versions of Maui Wowie, Lamb's Bread, Jamaican Dream, and Acapulco Gold in Orange County California dispensaries. I decided to go big on purchases while there. An ounce of authentic Acapulco Gold was $280.00 discounted but was worth every penny for its great, long lasting superlative Sativa high. It was even better than the original 1970s version. Same taste but a better high. There is no ceiling (tolerance) on these great sativa strains. The high from a landrace sativa is vastly superior to the hybrids offered for a lower price. They are never sedative and don't make me anxious ...Remember superior quality is rarely on sale..

    @agingboomer

Went to order the chocolope just now but it is all gone.

    :(

Hopefully they will stock more of that or some other true sativa bud, not seeing much.

    Anybody try raspberry parfait?

I am looking at the menu hoping they start stocking something that i know I like and can feel comfortable ordering an ounce or more of.

AK47, Panama Red would be awesome. Tangie, Green Crack, Maui wowie…

I don’t mind paying for it at all. I have a drawer full of close to $1000 worth of dispensary bud that was supposed to be “sativa” but it is all booboo bud that is not only not sativa, it isn’t even grown and cured properly and the high sucks.

In fact a more expensive bud would be much cheaper because I actually would smoke it and enjoy it instead of smoking one or two bowls and sticking it in the drawer of disappointment.

I wish I could find an ounce of Acapulco Gold for $280 or any price.

@agingboomer I used to get an ounce of Alcapulco Gold from a guy named Rusty for $35. :D It had been over 40 years since I got back into the hobby after I found this place. I thought maybe it was just me and my age, but I remember the highs being different back then. I think you probably nailed it, lots of hybrids. It's liking walking into a Starbucks and asking for a cup of coffee. They list 100 different ones and ask which one do you want? And I feel like saying, I don't know, just the kind I used to get at the donut shop for 10 cents a cup. . . Blue Dream is about the closet one I have found that kinda reminds me of the olden days.

  • @MadDevil11 @Rockafire -Thanks for reading my post.
A couple of comments: 1) Marijuana is exponentially more popular now than 50 years ago. This means that landrace sativas are more difficult to obtain and sell out more quickly. 2) Younger users don't miss Sativa strains that they never experienced. Both Merlin and Loud get great sativas from time to time. However, many MedMan customers only want Hybrids (that is, Super Boof etc.) Fortunately, Southern California dispensaries always have enough different Sativas to keep me happy. The latest SoCal batches of Acapulco Gold, Maui Waui, and Lamb's Bread have been epic with their long lasting and lysergic / psychedelic highs. MadDevill11 also mentioned Panama Red in his post. Panama Red had an unusual long lasting Creeper high. The high had NO ceiling. Have not seen this strain since 1980. Luckily, seeds are available if you are a clandestine grower. If you are waiting for federal legalization to happen, don't hold your breath. The DEA was supposed to reschedule Cannabis to Schedule 3 in 2024. Why hasn't it happened yet? Legalization at the Federal level will probably not happen in my lifetime.

I am on the middle east coast unfortunately and it is a desert for sativa.

I would love to be able to buy sativa from the socal market but it ain’t happening.

I just ordered some Raspberry Parfait though because that looks like the highest sativa % at 80/20, there were a couple others I would like to give a shot but they are mostly all mixed in different tiers of bud on Merlin’s side, so it makes it hard to do a split when they are all at different price points.

I would like to try the Orange Daiquiri, Apple Pie, and Lemon Drop, Balm, and Meringue from Merlin. But all those for me are gambles on whether I would actually like the effects enough to finish the bags and make it worth the purchase. I would also like to try Blue Dream, Gelonade, and Tropicana Cherry on the Loud side, and Mimosa and The Soap on the Happy Tree side.

Also says they don’t do 4 way splits on ounces just 2.

I placed an order for mushrooms and wanted a bigger split on 2 ounces but they only gave me a 2 way split so I assume that the biggest split is just 2 way. :(

I guess I will just wait for the 420 sale maybe and order a bunch of different quarters to sample.

Maybe someone will get a classic sativa back in the meantime. I skimmed the forum back almost to the beginning and it looks like they do get some from time to time.

Also ordered some hash from Merlin as well because I just like the effects of good hash. They have 2 of my favorite strains as well.

Gonna review what I get in case some people like me are reading. I really appreciate the people who review.
